In reaction to the UK referendum result, Transgender Europe calls on Europe’s political leaders to withstand scaremongering and put solidarity at the centre of their work.

We do not and cannot know what this referendum result would mean for transgender people in the UK, but we do know that the European Union has played an important role in promoting LGBTI rights in the UK, as elsewhere. The gains achieved in trans rights over the past years would have happened at a much slower rate without the European Union.

It is vital now more than ever to be strong in our solidarity with others, to protect vulnerable groups; especially migrants and people of colour; and to fight and organise against intolerance, xenophobia, racism, and nationalism.
