TGEU is looking for an Editorial & Social Communications Specialist, starting in December 2023 / January 2024. This role is 100% (40h/week).
This job is based in Berlin, Germany. TGEU will provide support if a work visa is required.

Job description
We are looking for a team member who will take responsibility for planning, creating, publishing, and analysing content in TGEU’s owned communications channels (websites, social media, newsletters) with a focus on community-driven, engaging editorial content and accessible yet specific tone of voice and style of verbal communication.
You will become a key part of the newly shaped communications team, and you will be reporting to the Senior Communications Officer. The communications team supports and amplifies TGEU’s advocacy, community building, and research work, and initiating and running awareness and strategic communications campaigns and publications.
Key responsibilities
Plan, write, publish, and coordinate the production of content for the website, social media profiles, and newsletters.
Actively engage TGEU member organisations, partners, and wider trans and intersectional ally communities into content creation, working in tight collaboration with other TGEU departments.
Grow the audiences and engagement of the social media, newsletter, and websites through meaningful, engaging content and hands-on analytics.
Continue developing and implementing the Editorial Strategy and Style Guide together with the Senior Communications Officer.
Continue developing and implementing templates and infographics for the website, social media, and newsletters together with the designer.
Constantly improve accessibility of TGEU’s communications.
Coordinate production and promotion with staff, community members, and partners, including TGEU publications (reports, guidelines, toolkits, and statements).
Coordinate proofreading and translation processes.
Continue developing and iterating the communication requests processes within the staff.
Contribute to internal and external reporting.
Support Senior Communications Officer with other tasks on communications coordination and content production.
Who we are looking for
Skills
Strategic, systematic approach to storytelling and content creation with a focus on accessible and engaging content.
Ability to write accessibly about complex and nuanced topics for diverse stakeholders
Ability to understand and write in legal, medical, and political terms in a simple yet precise way.
Strong and up-to-date understanding of the social media landscape, analytical tools, and engaging content formats.
Management and coordination skills: ability to own content creation from briefing to implementation; to set up and meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communications skills for engaging community members and partners in collaborative content creation and promotion.
C2 level of English language to ensure the quality of TGEU’s communications in English;
Knowledge of other European languages and/or Russian is a plus.
Hands-on experience with WordPress, SEO, and managing websites.
Experience in multilingual design production (EN + RU are the main languages for our communications, and a lot of projects are released in additional European languages)
Ability to brief the designers on infographics for social media and publications.
The ability to shoot/edit short form, photos, and simple videos is a plus.
A respectful and ethical approach with strong listening and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently, manage time and high workload, and plan multiple priorities on different timelines.
Ability to learn quickly when confronting new issues and priorities with a high sense of initiative; ability to manage stressful situations and work with potentially triggering topics and content.
Experience
- Our ideal candidate has 3+ years of professional experience in editorial strategy, social media, copywriting, community building, and multimedia content production.
- Knowledge of key topics important for trans people; strong understanding of intersectional approaches and perspectives.
- An interest in politics with an understanding of political communications and a willingness to engage with institutional actors.
- Experiences with working in agencies, digital media, startups, nonprofits, civil society, political institutions, media and publishing are a plus.
- Work or volunteer experience in LGBTI and/or human rights-related fields is desired.
What we offer
A 100% (40 hours per week) position for an initial period of 24 months, starting in December 2023 / January 2024.
Gross salary of 45,392.52€ per year, with a 5% increase after one year.

TGEU office accessibility
TGEU’s offices are partially accessible for wheelchair users: there is a steep ramp from the street down to the elevator; once inside, all the rooms are situated on one level and the office doors and corridors are very wide; the toilets are on the same level but the doors are too narrow to allow access when using a wheelchair.
