TGEU Publications

Trans communities have been – and will continue to be for the foreseeable future – severely affected by the massive-scale COVID-19 crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic has considerably worsened the socio-economic situation of many trans persons as well as their access to education, housing, health, and employment.

Since April 2020 TGEU has been monitoring the impact of COVID-19 on trans communities in Central Asia and Europe.

In times of crises, it is those living in the margins that suffer the most. Since the pandemic outbreak, trans communities around the world have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19.

Trainings

In 2020 and 2021, TGEU has been producing trans-specific trainings, tailored to the needs and priorities of its membership, and the wider trans community, to cope with, survive and sustain throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

Whatever the size, scope or focus of your organisation, there’s something in it for you!

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic forced activism to become more and more virtual. How can we keep making the difference in this new reality?

In this page you find essential tools to for you and your organisation:

  • Online activism and virtual Prides
  • Financial Stability in Times of Crisis
  • Organisational re-programming during COVID-19
  • UN Advocacy and UN Mechanisms
  • Digital Security during COVID-19 (for English speakers)
  • Digital Security during COVID-19 (for Russian speakers)
  • Coping from the Margins

Now more than ever, there is a greater need to address the wellbeing of activists and groups to ensure organising that is empowered, sustainable, and resilient.

From March to June 2021, TGEU has been organising a series of 4 online capacity building trainings: “Building sustainable and resilient activism in times of COVID-19.”

Here you find the following trainings:

  • Organisational Sustainability
  • Health advocacy in times of COVID-19
  • Wellbeing and collective care
  • Movement building

Community Responses and External Resources

In these challenging times, most of our members are actively working to support their local trans communities and protect human rights to the best of their capacities and abilities.

As TGEU, we want to support our members ands partners and raise visibility on the crucial activities, actions, statements and/or recommendations they organise in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

TGEU has 176 member organisations across Europe and Central Asia in 47 different countries. These include a variety of groups from trans-led groups to LGBT organisations, non-binary, sex workers rights, trans refugees focused groups and more, all advocating for trans rights.

Here you find an overview of what our member organisations are going through, and how they cope with the COVID-19 outbreak, followed by a short survey for members who wish to share with us their current situation as well.

Who’s at risk and how to support further exposed trans communities? How has COVID-19 impacted the trans communities in Europe and Central Asia? How to survive and sustain as a trans organisation?

If you want to reach out to us regarding how COVID-19 is impacting the trans community, please contact us at covid19@tgeu.org. If you have suggestions, we will do our best to take them into consideration.

Stay Safe

While we support and encourage physical distancing to slow the spread of the virus and protect our health systems, we remain concerned and vigilant about attempts to use the excuse of COVID-19 to undermine human rights and democracy.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered virus named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

COVID-19 and Trans People.

In times of crises, it is those living in the margins that suffer the most. We have reasons to believe that trans communities are – and will be – disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
