Policy officers arrested on April 29 seven trans women in Athens. According to the NGO Greek Transgender Support Association the arrest were arbitrarily and motivated by racist profiling. The women had deliberately not been informed about the alleged crimes.
The NGO commented:
“Similar cases were filed under the “Hospitable Zeus” operations and the courts had accepted the reasoning that trans people cannot be persecuted because of their gender identity, or because they happen to ne in a certain place at a certain time. This cannot be used as a proof that they are sex workers.”
