International Women’s Day 2019
On this International Women’s Day, Transgender Europe (TGEU) joins women worldwide in our struggle for social justice. Women and other marginalised gender identities and expressions are constantly silenced, controlled, exploited, and killed. We stand together against misogyny as our common enemy.
For trans people it is not always easy to find our space on this day. The experiences of trans people with misogyny and patriarchy are complex and often taken lightly. We are fighting today in solidarity with all those who suffer from misogyny. We especially support and stand with those who face the most violence in our trans communities and in society.
On this International Women’s Day, TGEU supports all women and all people who face discrimination and violence based on their “femininity” or “femaleness.” Whether it’s being socialised as woman, identifying as woman, living or being perceived as feminine or femme, or any other aspect of femininity that might have challenged one’s safety.
According to the Transrespect versus Transphobia Worldwide project, the majority of trans people reported murdered in the US and Europe are trans women of colour.1
