

Trans people who seek trans-specific healthcare – also known as gender-confirmation or gender reassignment treatment – often experience an increase in quality of life upon transitioning.
Many cannot afford trans-specific care or find competent or willing care providers. Others cannot or do not want to obtain a mandatory mental illness diagnosis, are considered too young or too old to consent to treatment, or are refused for other reasons. Also, many health insurance providers exclude coverage for trans-related healthcare or put up insurmountable barriers.
TGEU works to ensure that trans people can enjoy the highest standards of trans-specific healthcare.
To this end, we engage with European institutions and other stakeholders, such as EPATH, in addressing gaps in access to trans-specific care for trans people. We also support the development of non-stigmatising access models.
