TGEU and the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE)
TGEU met the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), as part of a delegation of social platform members also working on gender issues on October 21 in Vilnius. In the day-long meeting the organisations discussed intersecting themes with the work of EIGE, for example in EIGE’s work on measuring gender equality in the EU, combating gender-based violence, EIGE’s provision of an online resource pool or participation in the online forum EuroGender.
EIGE is a European Union agency which supports the EU and its Member States in their efforts to promote gender equality, to fight discrimination based on sex and to raise awareness about gender equality issues.
At the meeting, TGEU raised awareness of gender-based discrimination transgender people are facing. We encouraged EIGE to take on a broader approach to reflect a variety of genders and how all people are negatively affected by stereotypical gender roles.
TGEU materials like the Trans Rights Europe Map have now found their way to the EIGE visitor centre. More will follow shortly in EIGE’s e-library.
