Victory at last! Romanian courts finally implement Mirin case
The Romanian state must issue Arian Mirzarafie-Ahi a new birth certificate reflecting the identity already recognised in the United Kingdom, before Brexit. The ruling in favour of the trans man with dual citizenship is now final.
“Today, on 31 March, we celebrate Trans Day of Visibility, and I am glad to use this occasion to return to people in my community with good news. I have won definitively before the courts in Romania! This is not only my victory, but ours as well — the victory of those who are still waiting to be seen, heard, and recognised ” said Arian Mirzarafie-Ahi.
Asociatia ACCEPT has published an extensive press release as well as a media brief with all the important details on the case.
“We’re overjoyed by this final victory for Arian Mirzarafie-Ahi — proof that trans rights are human rights across the EU. Huge thanks to Arian and his brilliant legal team at ACCEPT for their courage and determination. We now urge the European Commission and Member States to ensure every trans person’s identity is recognised and respected, everywhere,” comments Richard Köhler, TGEU Expert Advisor and litigation lead.
