TGEU contributes expertise to new guidance on SOGIE rights in detention

TGEU served on the Expert Advisory Group for the publication Advancing SOGIE Rights in Detention: Promising Practices, a new guidance note published by the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT). This included providing initial input on the project, reviewing a first draft during a consultation meeting in Geneva in March 2026, and providing expert feedback on an advanced draft.

The publication documents promising practices by governments, prison administrations, staff and oversight bodies to improve conditions for LGBTI people in detention. It pays particular attention to trans communities and highlights approaches that address the structural challenges faced by LGBTI people deprived of liberty.

The publication was presented during a dedicated session at the TGEU Trans Council in Ljubljana on 11 September 2026.
