Uzbekistan’s LGBT community is under threat: Escalating human rights violations continue amid legal and social repression

The human rights situation in Uzbekistan is getting worse, especially for LGBTI people. There are still laws against "sodomy", human rights initiatives are restricted and the mistreatment and torture of gay, bisexual, and trans people continues without consequences.

On 25 July, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) ruled in M.A. and Others v. France that there has been no violation of Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights. 

320 trans and gender-diverse people were reported murdered globally in the past year. Most victims were Black and trans women of colour, and trans sex workers.
