Albania must uphold EU standards and human rights in gender equality legislation

TGEU — Trans Europa and Central Asia is alarmed by two deeply concerning legislative amendments advancing in Albania's Parliament this week, which fundamentally contradict both EU and international human rights laws, rules, and standards.

This is a brief resource introducing the European Health Data Space (EHDS) adopted by the European Union in 2025. This resource tries to answer some basic questions about the EHDS and identifies the advantages and risks of processing trans people’s electronic health data in a shared network.

On this International Day of Action for Trans Depathologisation, we join global movements demanding the full withdrawal of all classifications that treat trans and gender diverse identities as mental disorders.

This joint report with Insight (Ukraine), National Trans Coalition (Armenia), and Association Spectra (Montenegro) was submitted for the implementation review of the Council of Europe Recommendation on measures to combat discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity (CM/Rec (2010) 5).

We call on the European Commission to ensure that its first-ever Anti-Poverty Strategy addresses the realities of those most at risk of exclusion, including trans people and sex workers.

We strongly condemn the constitutional amendment passed by the Slovak Parliament on Friday, 26 September, which restricts legal gender recognition to a binary framework of ‘male’ and ‘female’ only.
