Attacks on civil society in the EU: Joint Letter to the European Commission

Together with 12 civil society organisations, we wrote a Joint Letter to the European Commission to raise concerns regarding the future of civil society in the EU and to share our outlook for the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).

Today, the Court of Justice of the European Union held a hearing in Case C-43/24 Shipov. This hearing is a crucial step in this case, which challenges Bulgaria’s current ban on legal gender recognition.

On 16 April, the UK Supreme Court delivered its judgment in For Women Scotland v Scottish Ministers.  TGEU condemns this judgment, as the Court has interpreted the protected characteristic of ‘sex’ and the word ‘woman’ in the UK’s Equality Act (the anti-discrimination law) to mean ‘biological sex’ and ‘biological woman’.
