Call for candidates: TGEU Auditors 2024 – 2026
Do you want to work with us to help strengthen the trans movement in Europe and Central Asia? Are you interested in, and want to work with us on the direction of TGEU and be part of its future? If so, we are opening nominations (including self-nominations) to be one of the TGEU Auditors for 2024-2026!
At the hybrid General Assembly to be held Saturday, 23 November 2024, seven members of TGEU’s Board, two Co-Chairs, and two Auditors, will be elected for the next term (2024-2026).
We are looking for candidates to serve as TGEU Auditors for a period of two years. Serving as a TGEU auditor is an important responsibility and learning opportunity. We encourage all active TGEU members to nominate themselves. To increase representation and expertise on the Board, we especially encourage nominations from trans and/or nonbinary people who are Black and/or people of colour, D/deaf and/or disabled, migrants, transfeminine, and/or sex workers. In addition, candidates with experience or skills in nonprofit governance and financial management are strongly encouraged. We urge interested members to nominate themselves as candidates and mention their background and experiences in the nomination form.
About the role
The two internal Auditors are responsible for confirming that TGEU responsibly uses its resources following the aims of the organisation. The Auditors work closely together to present a report to the Board and subsequently to the General Assembly.
To support the work of the elected Auditors, the TGEU Board will commission one or more independent certified financial auditors to audit TGEU’s finances, as per internationally accepted audit standards and German law. The Auditors elected by the General Assembly will complement the auditing done by this external, professional auditor.
Candidates who get elected as Auditors can expect:
- To have confidential conversations with both staff and board members to understand the status of the organisation;
- To prepare, in cooperation with the other Auditor, an Auditors’ report to be presented to the Board and subsequently to the General Assembly; and,
- To participate in the Council and General Assembly at the end of the term (2026) with all reasonable costs covered by TGEU.
Candidate requirements
To run for TGEU elected positions, candidates must be a TGEU member in good standing — either of a TGEU member organisation or as an individual member. Please, keep in mind that membership fees need to be paid by the time of the GA to vote or run for election. Find more information on our membership page. In case you have any questions regarding your eligibility, do not hesitate to contact us at admin@tgeu.org.
Ideal candidates for the TGEU Auditors should:
- Have an excellent understanding of TGEU’s governance structure, its statutes, and standing orders;
- Understand the basics of nonprofit finance and management;
- Have experience with the governance processes of NGOs and understanding of audited accounts;
- Collaborate closely with the other Auditor elected by the General Assembly;
- Be available for online meetings and email communication occasionally;
- Be fluent in spoken and written English (enough to complete the above tasks); and,
- Have internet access and be familiar with standard internet-based communication (online voice meetings, emails and document sharing).
More details are found in TGEU’s Statutes.
